Junior Apprenticeships
Launched in 2017, our Junior Apprenticeship programme has seen over 300 learners successfully graduate. All learners enrolling with Bridgend College as a Junior Apprentice will study GCSE’s in English Language, Mathematics and Numeracy as well as choosing a Level 2 vocational qualification in one of the following:
- Hair and Beauty
- Construction (Multi Skilled)
- Childcare/Health and Social Care
As part of the programme, Junior Apprentices will:
- Study five days a week at Bridgend College
- Benefit from a full-time vocational pathway outside of the school environment
- Gain a Level 1 or 2 qualification
- Achieve three GCSEs in Maths, English and Numeracy
- Have dedicated support from our specialised Junior Apprenticeship team
- Receive free breakfast every morning from our refectory
- Access career support through Cyfleoedd, our careers support team
We run the programme in partnership with Bridgend Local Education Authority and years 9 and 10 at nine comprehensive schools in the local area:

You need to be in year 10 or 11 and aged between 14-16. You do not need any previous qualifications.
To apply for one of our Junior Apprenticeships you will need to speak to your school Junior Apprenticeship Lead.
Junior Apprenticeship Programmes
Hair and Beauty
This Junior Apprenticeship will enable learners to develop hair and beauty skills, techniques and knowledge, which will prepare learners to progress to the next level of vocational learning. It will directly prepare learners for further study in the hair and beauty sector.
Construction (Multi Skilled)
This Junior Apprenticeship provides the ideal introduction to the construction industry and covers essential skills in the following construction trades: bricklaying, carpentry and joinery, plastering, painting and decorating, construction operations, wall and floor tiling, electrical and plumbing.
Childcare/Health and Social Care
This Junior Apprenticeship will give you the skills and knowledge needed to progress onto a career such as a Nurse, Midwife, Health Visitor, Carer, Occupational Therapist, Physiotherapist, Counselor, Social Worker, Teacher, Childminder, Nursery Nurse or Teaching Assistant. During this Junior Apprenticeship, you will develop knowledge from human growth, development and wellbeing to promoting and maintaining health and wellbeing.
