Students will benefit from opportunities, activities and events which will enrich their college experience. This includes the chance to represent the voices of their fellow students, which can help make a difference to how courses are taught and improve the experiences of future students. The roles available are Class Representative, Student Academic Representative (StAR), Student Governor, or you may be interested in being an Ambassador – we have Active, Welsh and Event roles you can apply for.
The benefits of being involved in ‘Learner Voice’ include gaining and developing personal skills such as positive and constructive communication, problem solving, negotiation and leadership.
Class Representatives feed back to the StARs, sharing their opinions about their learning experiences to enable the StARs to represent their peers in meetings with the College’s Senior Leadership Team.
StARs represent their course area and are the voice of their fellow students. You’ll have the opportunity to work alongside other StARs and staff, and attend meetings to ensure feedback and thoughts of your fellow students are shared.
Becoming a Student Governor is an exciting and unique opportunity. Student governors provide the ‘student voice’ at the College’s Governing Body meetings, which is a perspective no other governor can give due to a student’s day-to-day involvement in the College. The Governing Body is keen to listen to the student governors and their input helps shape discussions and decisions.
Student Governors are not elected to represent students, but are elected in their own right as individuals. You are expected to use your own knowledge and experience as a student of Bridgend College and as a member of your local community to make a valid contribution to the conversation.
You can apply to become an Events, Active, Welsh or Digital Ambassador and if successful, you would support a variety of college events and activities to enrich your student experience. This can enhance your CV for professional and personal development skills.
We have a range of student societies, which are a great way to meet new people who share similar interests, and have lots of fun along the way! Students can create their own or join one of our existing societies:
