Our carbon emissions and net zero carbon trajectory
Bridgend College has made a commitment to meet net zero carbon emissions by 2030 (scopes 1 and 2) and no later than 2035 (scope 3) in order to align with the Paris Agreement to limit global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels. This is based on scientific evidence which provides a clearly-defined pathway for organisations to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and thereby prevent the worst impacts of climate change.
Net zero refers to the balance between the amount of greenhouse gas (GHG) that’s produced and the amount that’s removed from the atmosphere. When what we add is no more than what we take away, we reach net zero. Net zero focuses on reducing carbon emissions as much as possible first, and only offsetting unavoidable, residual CO2 as a last resort.
