Bridgend College is proud to announce that it has achieved the College of Sanctuary Award, recognising its commitment to being a place where everyone feels welcome, safe and valued.
College of Sanctuary is a nationally recognised accreditation that celebrates education providers committed to creating a culture of welcome, inclusion and belonging for people seeking sanctuary, including refugees and people seeking asylum.
This award reflects the work that has taken place across the College to embed the values of welcome, dignity, safety, respect and belonging into everyday practice.
Since signing the College of Sanctuary pledge in 2022, Bridgend College has strengthened the support available to learners seeking sanctuary through enhanced induction, tailored wellbeing support, financial assistance, language support and close partnership working with community organisations.
The award also recognises the College’s wider commitment to equality, diversity, inclusion and anti-racism, ensuring that all learners, regardless of their background or circumstances, feel respected, supported and empowered to be all that they can be.
Learners seeking sanctuary at Bridgend College have shared the positive impact of feeling welcomed and included, highlighting how this has improved their confidence, well-being, and sense of belonging.
