It was our pleasure to host the College’s inaugural Business Breakfast event this morning, a chance for businesses and entrepreneurs to come together, network and discover new opportunities to support their enterprises.
Held at Coed-Y-Mwstwr Hotel in Bridgend, the College welcomed attendees to the event as part of Colleges Week 2023, an annual celebration of the contribution colleges play in their local communities and beyond.
Addressing attendees on behalf of Bridgend College were Vivienne Buckley, Principal and CEO, and Matthew Rees, Vice Principal for Work-Based Learning and Commercial Activity. Viv and Matthew kicked-off the session with a short overview of the College’s apprenticeship programmes, along with training and development opportunities to support business, employees and future growth.
Introduced as part of the College’s offering was Multiply, a new programme that offers Bridgend residents over the age of 19 the opportunity to upskill, have 1-2-1 learning support and develop numeracy skills for free.
Viv also shared the College’s plans to build a new Town Centre Campus in the heart of Bridgend, which will include a 200-seat theatre space, a coffee shop and flexible meeting spaces. This will present new opportunities for businesses and help to revitalise the local economy.
Rachael Flanagan, founder of the multi-award winning commercial cleaning company Mrs Buckét, followed with the event’s keynote speech. She reflected on key milestones from her phenomenal career trajectory, including winning UK Young Entrepreneur of the Year and the process she took to level up her business.
Both relatable and empowering, Rachael’s speech honed in on how her experiences have taught her compassion, a crucial tool which she employs as a business leader, and to have the courage to act on one’s convictions.
“We are really excited to be able to welcome businesses from all over Bridgend and further afield to our inaugural breakfast event with the purpose of connecting people and business. It’s a great opportunity to share the excellent work we do at the College and celebrate FE institutions nationally during Colleges Week! “
