Deputy Principal hailed as Gold Winner for ‘Outstanding Educator Award’ from the WFCP

Following the recent release of the Best Practice Guide launched by the World Federation of Colleges and Polytechnics (WFCP), we are celebrating that our Deputy Principal was awarded Gold.

Viv Buckley was presented the ‘Outstanding Educator’ Gold Award of Excellence last June, claiming the title from amongst a list of esteemed international contenders. The WFCP’s Awards of Excellence recognise the institutions that show innovation and responsiveness in the FE sector and the individuals that contribute to their vision. Read the full guide to the awards and recipients.

Viv has been acknowledged for her contribution to the Further Education sector, her accomplishments as an educational practitioner and her commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion on a global scale.

Principal and CEO, Simon Pirotte, remarked:

“Viv is an exceptional practitioner and leader and this award is testament to that. Viv inspires colleagues and learners on a daily basis, and I am thrilled she has been recognised internationally with this truly outstanding award. Llongyfarchiadau, Viv!”

Viv has worked in Further Education for the past 20 years, having started her career as a teacher. Now Deputy Principal of Bridgend College, Viv has been a driving force behind the College’s trajectory to becoming one of the UK’s top FE institutions.

Reflecting on her achievements and work ethos, Viv commented:

“Be brave and bold. Try new things and if they don’t work, try again! With the right team around you, you can truly make a difference and have impact. Set the bar high, you will not always reach it but striving for excellence will always lead to success, or at the very least a worthwhile experience everyone can learn from.”

In 2018, Viv achieved the Advanced Higher Education Senior Fellowship in recognition of her ability to enact change and facilitate improvements within the FE sector. She has also been part of the Welsh Government ‘Leading Wales’ programme, delivered in collaboration with the Association of Colleges and Colegau Cymru. Colegau Cymru is a member of the WFCP and committed to developing connections that help the sector thrive, both nationally and internationally. To learn more about the WFCP, visit wfcp.org/about/
