The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) has recognised Bridgend College as a CyberFirst Gold institution, the highest accolade for a school or college.
CyberFirstâs Schools / Colleges scheme formally recognises educational institutions across the UK who demonstrate commitment to providing a structured strategic approach to excellence in cyber education. The scheme helps to facilitate connections between these institutions and both universities and regional organisations through cyber-related events and activities, such as skills competitions.
Part of the Government Communication Headquarters (GCHQ) – the UKâs intelligence and security agency – the NCSC is the UKâs lead technical authority on cyber security. Its CyberFirst programme aims to help young people explore and nurture their interest in technology by introducing them to the world of cyber security.
The NCSC awards institutions one of three different statusesâGold, Silver or Bronzeâwhich reflects the current stage of the organisationâs cyber security teaching, strategic ambition and development plans. To have achieved Gold status, Bridgend College has demonstrated an in-depth understanding of the relevance of IT and cyber education and a commitment to develop its provision and opportunities for students.
The College has a robust computing, IT and cyber offering that incorporates a range of services, from courses to skills competitions. Supported by Cyber College Cymru, the College is not only able to offer a specialist provision for students, but also further demonstrates its commitment to broadening the knowledge of cyber careers and skills amongst young people, providing them with the confidence they need to seek employment in the sector.
