We are delighted that we have officially entered the final stage of construction of our STEAM Academy, opening at our Pencoed Campus this September. Handover of the facility is planned for the end of June, after which the College will complete its internal fit-out.
The final stage involves a range of final engineering checks and inspections. These include electrical and mechanical services testing, acoustic testing, fire and electrical safety, ventilation, snagging and finally, cleaning, before the building can be fully commissioned so that it can be utilised by our students, staff and the community.
The project has been partly funded by the Welsh Government through its 21st Century Schools and Colleges Programme. This aims to transform the learning experience of students, ensuring they are taught in classrooms and workshops with the technologies and facilities needed to deliver a 21st Century curriculum.
Students and staff from our Horticulture department have also been assisting with the landscaping element of the build, ensuring that the inclusion of green spaces reflects the College’s commitment to the environment and wellbeing. This commitment is further supported by the building being designed as BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) Excellent.
