Bridgend College was one of just six colleges across Wales selected to live stream the prestigious Skills Competition Wales Awards on the evening of 17 March. Skills Competition Wales, through Inspiring Skills Excellence in Wales, aims to raise the profile of skills in Wales and offers students and apprentices a chance to take part in a series of vocational skills competitions across a range of sectors.
The celebration event was held at our STEAM Academy on our Pencoed Campus, with some awards being presented live from the College. 17 Bridgend College learners won medals on the night – 4 gold, 3 silver and 10 bronze. Our Music students provided some great live entertainment whilst our Hospitality students served refreshments.
As well as competitors and their tutors, the celebration event was attended by College governors, including our recently appointed Chair of Governors, Jeff Greenidge, and Suzanne Packer, who was awarded a Bridgend College Honorary fellowship at our Higher Education Awards Ceremony 2021. Huw Irranca-Davies MS and Principal and CEO, Simon Pirotte, presented some awards live on the night.
We would like to congratulate all Bridgend College learners who took part in Skills Competitions throughout the year including our 17 award winners in the following categories:
