Outstanding student success at Skills Competition Wales awards ceremony

Last night Bridgend College students won an outstanding 30 awards at the 2023 Skills Competition Wales awards ceremony, including the ‘Bands Band’ accolade for the student music group, Wired. Medals were won across the board, with the College claiming 10 Gold, 18 Silver and 1 Bronze.

As one of six satellite hosts for the ceremony, Bridgend College presented seven awards including Health and Social Care and Childcare. Conferring the medals live for College was Simon Pirotte, Principal and CEO, and Suzanne Packer, Honorary Fellow.

The ceremony took place at the College’s STEAM Academy where participating students, their families and tutors celebrated students’ performance and achievements. College governors, the leader of Bridgend County Borough Council, Cllr Huw David, and Members of the Senedd, Luke Fletcher MS and Huw Irranca-Davies MS, also attended in support of the tremendous collective student effort.

Skills Competition Wales is an annual series of competitive heats across a breadth of vocational areas, taking place between January and March. From Robotics to Horticulture, students compete in their chosen categories, providing them with a chance to both showcase and benchmark their skills against their peers.
