Global Teaching Labs: Coleg Penybont yn cymryd rhan mewn rhaglen ryngwladol gyda MIT

Agorodd Coleg Penybont ei ddrysau ym mis Ionawr i Julie Chen, myfyriwr o’r Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) uchel ei barch. Ymunodd Julie â’r Coleg am dair wythnos fel rhan o raglen Global Teaching Labs (GTL) MIT yng Nghymru, a reolir gan Equal Education Partners ar ran Llywodraeth Cymru.

Mae’r rhaglen GTL gan MIT yn recriwtio myfyrwyr sy’n perfformio ar lefel uchel ac sydd â diddordeb yn null MIT o ddysgu trwy brofiad. Er y gall y rheini sy’n cymryd rhan yn GTL fod yn astudio ystod o bynciau gwahanol, mae’r rhaglen yn bennaf ar gyfer myfyrwyr o gyrsiau Gwyddoniaeth, Technoleg, Peirianneg a Mathemateg (STEM), gan eu galluogi i fireinio eu gwybodaeth am y pwnc, datblygu eu hymarfer addysgu, ac ennill sgiliau cyfathrebu allweddol tra’n byw yn eu gwlad letyol.

Bellach yn ei hail flwyddyn yn astudio Peirianneg Gemegol-Biolegol, mae Julie wedi bod â diddordeb mewn addysgu Gwyddoniaeth ers tro, ar ôl gwneud llawer o fentora yn ystod ei hamser yn yr ysgol uwchradd a nawr yn ei chyfnod yn y brifysgol. Roedd y rhaglen GTL yn gyfle i ddefnyddio ei phrofiad addysgu tra hefyd yn rhoi cyfle iddi deithio ac ymdrochi mewn diwylliant gwahanol.

“Mae pawb wedi bod yn garedig iawn ac yn gwneud i chi deimlo cymaint o groeso yng Ngholeg Penybont. Er mod i yma yn bennaf i gefnogi addysgu, dw i hefyd wedi mwynhau bod yn fyfyriwr yma a chael y cyfle i ddysgu.”

Julie Chen, myfyriwr Peirianneg Gemegol-Biolegol yn MIT

Cafodd Julie ei lleoli yng Ngholeg Penybont lle buodd hi’n cefnogi’r adran Wyddoniaeth a Pheirianneg drwy addysgu a mentora myfyrwyr. Pan nad oedd yn cyflwyno gwersi, manteisiodd Julie ar yr ystod o gyrsiau a gynigiwyd gan y Coleg i ddatblygu ei dealltwriaeth ei hun o bynciau cysylltiedig, gyda Pheirianneg Drydanol o ddiddordeb arbennig iddi.

Yn ystod ei chyfnod yng Nghymru, cafodd Julie gyfle hefyd i ddysgu mewn ysgolion lleol, a threuliodd sawl diwrnod yn cefnogi’r cwrs Cemeg Safon Uwch yn Ysgol Uwchradd Gatholig yr Archesgob McGrath ac Ysgol Porthcawl.

Mae Julie yn unigolyn hynod wybodus, profiadol ac addasadwy, a gwerthfawrogwyd yr amser a dreuliodd hi yn y Coleg yn fawr iawn, nid yn unig gan y staff yr oedd hi’n eu cefnogi ond hefyd gan y myfyrwyr yr oedd hi’n gweithio â nhw. Mae Coleg Penybont yn falch o fod wedi cymryd rhan yn rhaglen GTL MIT, menter a oedd yn annog cyfnewid dysgu ac yn cynnig cyfle cyfoethogi diwylliannol i’w fyfyrwyr.

“Ar ôl bod yn llwyddiannus yn ein cais i fod yn rhan o’r rhaglen GTL ar gyfer 2024, roedd y maes cwricwlwm cyfan yn edrych ymlaen yn arw at weithio gyda myfyrwyr MIT i rannu eu gwybodaeth a’u profiad. Roeddem yn ffodus iawn i gael ein dewis cyntaf o ran ymgeisydd, Julie Chen, am 3 wythnos y prosiect. Yn ystod ei hamser gyda ni, fe wnaeth Julie gyflwyno ystod eang o bynciau gan gynnwys Gwyddoniaeth, Peirianneg, Mathemateg a Thermodynameg i fyfyrwyr o L3 i L5. Roedd pob un o’r myfyrwyr a gwrddodd Julie wedi’i swyno gan ei phrofiadau o MIT ac o weithio a byw yn America.”

Dale Patrick, Rheolwr y Cwricwlwm ar gyfer Gwyddoniaeth a Pheirianneg yng Ngholeg Penybont
