Cyflwynwyd Cymrodoriaethau i Rebecca Rowe a Simon Pirotte OBE

Cyflwynwyd ein Cymrodoriaethau Coleg Penybont 2025 yn ystod ein Seremonïau Graddio Addysg Uwch a gynhaliwyd yn ddiweddar ar ein Campws ym Mhencoed.

Anrhydeddwyd pencampwr rhyngwladol aml-chwaraeon y byd a Rheolwr Criw yng Ngwasanaeth Tân Canolbarth a Gorllewin Cymru, Rebecca Rowe, yn ystod seremoni gyntaf y dydd i gydnabod ei gwasanaethau i chwaraeon, gwasanaethau cyhoeddus a herio stereoteipiau rhywedd.

Dechreuodd Rebecca ei gyrfa mewn chwaraeon fel nofiwr, gan gystadlu dros Gymru cyn mynd ymlaen i astudio Chwaraeon ym Mhrifysgol Loughborough. Yno, daeth yn rhwyfwr cystadleuol, gan rwyfo dros Brydain Fawr yn 2005 a 2008 cyn mynd ymlaen i chwarae i dîm Merched Cwpan Rygbi’r Byd yn 2017, yn ogystal â thair Pencampwriaeth Chwe Gwlad i Gymru. Mae hi hefyd wedi ennill dwy Bencampwriaeth y Byd mewn Achub Bywyd Syrffio ac wedi dal record y Byd, Ewrop a’r Gymanwlad ar gyfer y digwyddiad hwn.

Yn 2017, dechreuodd Rebecca yrfa newydd, gan symud o’i rôl fel athrawes Addysg Gorfforol i fod yn ddiffoddwr tân, ar ôl gorfod ymddeol o rygbi oherwydd anaf difrifol. Dyma oedd y sbardun a arweiniodd yn y pen draw at Rebecca yn sefydlu ei hun fel model rôl pwerus i ddiffoddwyr tân benywaidd, sy’n herio stereoteipiau drwy ymgymryd â heriau newydd a nodau uchelgeisiol. Ym mis Ionawr 2024, cwblhaodd Rebecca alldaith i Begwn y De, gan gerdded 1230km, heb dywys a heb gefnogaeth mewn tymereddau mor isel â -50 gradd, gan arloesi llwybr newydd. Cryfhaodd llwyddiant ‘Alldaith Angylion Tân yr Antarctig’, fel y’i gelwir, argyhoeddiad Rebecca na ddylai rhywedd byth fod yn rhwystr i ddilyn eich dyheadau. Yn anhygoel, yn yr un flwyddyn, Rebecca oedd yr unig berson yn y byd i erioed gwblhau saith marathon mewn saith diwrnod, ar draws saith cyfandir mewn cit diffodd tân ac offer anadlu.

Ochr yn ochr â’i rôl fel Rheolwr Criw yng Ngwasanaeth Tân Canolbarth a Gorllewin Cymru, lle mae hi’n hyfforddi diffoddwyr tân y dyfodol, mae Rebecca wedi sefydlu Sefydliad Arweinyddiaeth Angylion Tân yn ddiweddar.

Anrhydeddwyd Simon Pirotte OBE yn ail seremoni’r dydd i gydnabod ei wasanaethau i addysg, y celfyddydau ac ymrwymiad i ddiwylliant cynhwysol yn y gweithle. Mae Simon wedi gweithio yn y sector addysg ers bron i 40 mlynedd. Mae wedi cael effaith sylweddol drwy gydol ei yrfa ar ôl gweithio yn y sectorau ysgolion, Addysg Bellach ac Addysg Uwch. Mae hefyd wedi gweithio fel Pennaeth Adran yn Los Angeles, UDA, drwy Ysgoloriaeth Fulbright.

Ymunodd Simon â Choleg Penybont fel Pennaeth a Phrif Weithredwr yn 2013. Disgrifiwyd arweinyddiaeth Simon fel “ysbrydoledig” yn adroddiad arolygu Estyn Coleg Penybont yn 2016, lle cafodd y Coleg ganlyniad ‘rhagorol dwbl’. Yn 2018, dyfarnwyd ‘Cyfarwyddwr y Flwyddyn yn y Sector Cyhoeddus’ i Simon gan Sefydliad y Cyfarwyddwyr (DU), ac yn 2019, enwyd Coleg Penybont yn Goleg AB y Flwyddyn yn y Times Educational Supplement. Yn ystod ei gyfnod deng mlynedd yng Ngholeg Penybont, y sefydliad oedd y coleg AB â’r safle uchaf yn y DU yn rhestr y Times o 100 o Gwmnïau Gorau i weithio iddynt. Derbyniodd Simon OBE yn Rhestr Anrhydeddau’r Flwyddyn Newydd 2020 am ei wasanaethau i Addysg Bellach ac Addysg Uwch.

Yn fwy diweddar, penodwyd Simon yn Brif Swyddog Gweithredol cyntaf Medr, y Comisiwn Addysg Drydyddol ac Ymchwil, i sefydlu’r corff hyd-braich newydd hwn o Lywodraeth Cymru sy’n goruchwylio’r holl addysg ôl-16 yng Nghymru. Ymddeolodd Simon o’r swydd hon ym mis Gorffennaf 2025.

Cyflwynwyd Cymrodoriaethau i Rebecca a Simon gan Emma Adamson, Cadeirydd Corff Llywodraethu Coleg Penybont.

“Roedd yn anrhydedd wirioneddol cyflwyno Cymrodoriaethau i Rebecca a Simon yn ein seremonïau Graddio. Mae eu cyflawniadau yn ysbrydoliaeth i ni i gyd, yn enwedig oherwydd bod y ddau Gymrawd yn dangos llwyddiant ar draws meysydd amrywiol a heriol. Mae Rebecca a Simon yn brawf y gellir paru cyflawniad proffesiynol gwych â chyfrifoldeb cymdeithasol dwfn trwy ymladd dros ddyfodol gwell i ni i gyd. Fe wnaethant ysbrydoli graddedigion eleni yn fawr i symud ymlaen a ‘bod yn bopeth y gallant fod’.”

Viv Buckley, Pennaeth a Phrif Weithredwr

Mae ein Graddio Addysg Uwch yn un o uchafbwyntiau’r flwyddyn lle rydym yn dathlu cyflawniadau ein myfyrwyr o’r flwyddyn academaidd ddiwethaf. Ynghyd â staff y Coleg, mynychwyd y digwyddiad gan Lywodraethwyr ac Aelodau’r Senedd a Chyngor Bwrdeistref Sirol Pen-y-bont ar Ogwr, gan gynnwys Dr Altaf Hussain, Aelod Rhanbarthol y Senedd dros Orllewin De Cymru, y Cynghorydd Jane Gebbie, Dirprwy Arweinydd y Cyngor ac Aelod Cabinet dros Wasanaethau Cymdeithasol, Iechyd a Llesiant, a’r Cynghorydd Huw David, Maer Bwrdeistref Sirol Pen-y-bont ar Ogwr.
