Sports and Esports Production (Level 3)

Support the game, support the industry. Many employment opportunities within Sports & Esports lie in producing content for fans. From coverage of live games, pre-match build-up, or post-match highlights. Here you will learn the art of media production for your favourite game, whether that be Football, Motorsport or the more modern Esports.

You will study in a collaborative way which appeals to a wide range of students, including those who may be interested in traditional and modern team activities such as sport, music, art or gaming. This course will provide you with a range of skills to enter the world of production for live and prerecorded content relating to traditional Sports, modern events such as Esports, and the associated entertainment industry, which has a huge variety of roles and career prospects. Sports, including Esports, aren't limited to events, there are many other associated entertainment content such as news, analytics, documentaries, reviews and critiques.

You will study a range of subjects to help you understand the world of Media Production for both live and pre-recorded content, as well as develop the knowledge and skills needed to run sporting events and build successful teams.

Overview and modules

This one-year full-time course focuses on exploring career opportunities within Media Production. It will inform and develop a wide range of skills to support students looking to join the industry and to manage events, including audio, visual and production techniques.

Content for this course will include:

Camera, audio and video production
Live event production (both in-person and online)
Professional progression and personal development
Live streaming and commentating / shoutcasting
Tournament and event organisation
Coaching and team management
Branding, Marketing and Graphic communications
Networking, software and hardware support

You will also study the Skills Challenge Certificate and develop key skills including numeracy, literacy and digital skills throughout the course.

The formal qualification you will receive is a UAL Level 3 Diploma In Creative Media Production & Technology.

Your programme of study

At Bridgend College, your learning programme is designed to enable you to Be All That You Can Be.

The main qualification you will study as part of this programme is the UAL Level 3 Diploma In Creative Media Production & Technology.

You will also study additional skills qualifications as part of your programme of study. There are 3 pathways. Each pathway will be selected at enrolment and will reflect your current course application, your chosen curriculum area, as well as your previous learning in Maths and English. You could study Advanced Skills Baccalaureate Wales (equivalent to 1 A-Level), GCSE Maths or English, Advanced Studies, or at least one Essential Skills Qualification (ESW) course.

All students will receive tutorials and are required to complete an ESW Employability course in the Success Hub.

Entry requirements

Students are required to have 5 GCSEs at grade C or above, preferably including English and Maths. Equivalent qualifications will also be accepted.

Assessment methods

You will be assessed in a variety of ways which could include assignments, case studies, practical demonstrations and continual class assessment.

Continue your studies

After completion of the Level 3 Diploma in Creative Media Production and Technology [Sports & Esports Production], students can progress on the Level 3 Extended Diploma in the same specialism, which requires a further year of study. This course will include preparing for progression into the industry, advanced production techniques and specialist study opportunities.

After completion of the full Level 3 Extended Diploma, students will then be able to apply for a number of higher education courses or seek employment within the Sports or Esports industry.
