Jewellery Making Foundation (Level 1 - Phase 2)
If you have ever wanted to design and make your own custom pieces, this course offers a wonderful introduction to the craft of jewellery making. Taking time to work with your hands and create something beautiful is a fantastic way to relax and discover a rewarding new hobby. You might feel a bit unsure about the delicate manual work involved, or wonder if you have enough natural creativity, but this course is designed to guide you gently through the process. The focus is entirely on your personal enjoyment, allowing you to learn at your own pace and enjoy the satisfaction of making unique items.
Upon the completion of this unit, students will be awarded Jewellery Design Project Level 1 from Agored Cymru
This course introduces you to the essential knowledge and skills needed to design and construct your own jewellery. You will start by exploring at least four different sources of inspiration for your designs. The modules will guide you through planning a project in detail, which includes making sketches, taking precise measurements of your design and components, and deciding on your order of work. You will also learn about the correct equipment needed for cutting and fixing your materials, as well as various construction techniques. Finally, you will get hands-on experience by creating your own piece of jewellery and reflecting on the success of your project to see what went well and what could be improved.
There are no formal entry requirements for this course, however, students should show interest in the subject matter and a willingness to learn.
This course is portfolio-based. There are no formal exams or stressful timed tests to complete. Instead, you will build a collection of your work that showcases your personal design journey. Your portfolio will include evidence of your project planning, such as your initial sketches, measurements, and chosen construction techniques, alongside the final piece of jewellery you create. You will also include a short reflection on how your project went, making it a relaxed way to track your creative progress.
Once you complete this course, you will have the foundational skills needed to continue developing your jewellery-making hobby at home. You can use your newfound knowledge of planning, sketching, and construction to design and create more pieces for your personal collection, or to give as thoughtful, handmade gifts to friends and family.
