Jewellery Making Foundation (Level 1 - Phase 1)

Designed specifically for personal enjoyment and skill-building, you will discover the foundations of jewellery making in a friendly, supportive environment. Upon the completion of this unit, students will be awarded Jewellery Making Level 1 from Agored Cymru
This course takes you through the full creative process, from basic concepts to finished items. Key topics include:
- Workshop Safety: Working safely with tools, equipment, and materials.
- Materials and Tools: Sourcing supplies and exploring the properties of base and precious metals.
- Practical Techniques: Mastering skills such as piercing, texturing, casting, twisted wire, or soldering.
- Design & Production: Developing your own concepts, planning equipment needs, and crafting finished pieces of jewellery.
- Reflection: Reviewing your completed work and learning how to overcome design challenges.
There are no formal entry requirements for this course, however, students should show interest in the subject matter and a willingness to learn.
This course is portfolio-based. Rather than sitting formal exams or tests, you will compile evidence of your progress and practical work throughout the course. Your portfolio will include your project work, design development, and records demonstrating that you can safely use workshop tools, work with at least three materials and tools, and apply various craft techniques to turn your own ideas into finished artwork.
Once you complete this course, you will have a solid foundation in the core skills of jewellery design. You can continue developing this hobby independently at home, using your new knowledge of sourcing ideas, planning projects, and utilising construction techniques to design and create even more pieces for your own personal enjoyment.
