ESOL Level 1 (Evening) - Part-time Semester 1 - Pencoed

Upon the completion of this unit, students will be awarded ESOL: Writing Level 1 from Agored Cymru

In this course, you will learn how to:

Write clearly: You will practice making your handwriting easy for others to read and learn when it is better to use a computer to type your work.
Complete complex forms: Your tutor will show you how to fill in difficult forms, such as job applications, course registrations, or insurance claims.
Use the right format: You will learn how to set out different types of writing, such as formal reports, instructions, and personal letters.
Choose the correct tone: You will practice using the right level of formality for your writing, whether you are writing to a friend or a manager.
Organise your ideas: You will learn how to group your writing into paragraphs that follow a logical order.
Use linking words: You will practice using phrases like "for this reason" and "therefore" to connect your sentences and make your meaning clear.

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this course, however, students should show interest in the subject matter and a willingness to learn.

Assessment methods

Your tutor will help you throughout the term and check your progress through practical writing tasks. You will work on activities like drafting letters or completing practice forms. There are no formal exams, the tutor will simply look at your classwork to see how you are improving and offer advice on where you can do even better.
