ESOL Entry Level 1, 2, & 3 - Full time, day study

This course is designed for adult learners who want to improve their English language skills to help with daily tasks, such as talking to doctors, shopping, or supporting children with schoolwork. Whether you are starting from the beginning or looking to improve what you already know, you will find a welcoming environment here to help you feel more at home in your community.

The main goal of this course is to give you the practical tools you need to live and work in the UK. We focus on the language you will actually use in real life situations.

Full-time students will attend college three days a week from 9am to 3.30pm for 33 weeks. Classes begin in September.

Overview and modules

You will work on:

Speaking and Listening: Practice having everyday conversations and understanding others.
Reading and Writing: Learn how to deal with forms, letters, and digital information.
Grammar and Vocabulary: Build a stronger foundation to express yourself more accurately.

You will earn a City and Guilds Entry Level Certificate in ESOL Skills for Life (Entry 1 - Entry 3)

[Entry Level 2] You will also complete Entry Level Essential Skills Wales in Application of Number (Entry 1)
[Entry Level 3] You will also complete Entry Level Essential Skills Wales in Application of Number (Entry 2)

Your programme of study

At Bridgend College, your learning programme is designed to enable you to Be All That You Can Be.

The main qualification you will study as part of this programme is the City & Guilds Entry Level Certificate in ESOL Skills for Life (Entry 1).

You will also study additional skills qualifications as part of your programme of study. There are 3 pathways. Each pathway will be selected at enrolment and will reflect your current course application, your chosen curriculum area, as well as your previous learning in Maths and English. You could study Advanced Skills Baccalaureate Wales (equivalent to 1 A-Level), GCSE Maths or English, Advanced Studies, or at least one Essential Skills Qualification (ESW) course.

All students will receive tutorials and are required to complete an ESW Employability course in the Success Hub.

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements. Please apply via this form regardless of your desired level (Entry Level 1, 2, or 3). After you apply, our team will contact you to complete a placement test. This ensures you are placed in the correct class (Entry Level 1, 2, or 3) for your skills.

Assessment methods

You will complete three externally set City and Guilds assessments in Reading, Writing, and Listening and Speaking. Your tutor will guide you through these when you are ready, ensuring the process is manageable and reflects the progress you have made in class.

Continue your studies

You would have the opportunity to progress onto the next higher level of ESOL e.g from Entry 1 to Entry 2, from Entry 2 to Entry 3 or from Entry 3 to ESOL Level 1 WRE or to another Level 1 college course following in an interview.
