ESOL Level 1 and Employability - Full time

If you are looking to improve your English while gaining the practical skills needed to find a job in the UK, this course is designed for you.

You will work towards an Agored Work Related Education Level 1 (Equivalent to 2 GCSEs grade D) and City and Guilds Level 1 Award in ESOL Skills for Life (Speaking and Listening)

As well as improving your grammar and range of vocabulary, this course will also help develop and improve your language skills in the following areas:

Reading
Writing
Listening
Speaking

Full-time students will attend college three days a week from 9am to 3.30pm for 33 weeks. Classes begin in September.

Overview and modules

You will complete Agored portfolios to help you in the world of work.

These could include the following units:

Creating and developing your CV: Learning how to write a document about your work and skills.
Having job interview practice: Learning how to answer questions when you talk to an employer.
Carrying out projects: Learning how to plan a task and finish it from start to finish.
Learning how to communicate effectively: Learning how to share information clearly with other people.
Improving performance in learning: Learning how to become a better student and get better results.
Applying for a job: Learning how to fill out forms and send your CV to get a position.

Your programme of study

At Bridgend College, your learning programme is designed to enable you to Be All That You Can Be.

The main qualification you will study as part of this programme is the Agored Cymru Level 1 Certificate in Work Related Education.

You will also study additional skills qualifications as part of your programme of study. There are 3 pathways. Each pathway will be selected at enrolment and will reflect your current course application, your chosen curriculum area, as well as your previous learning in Maths and English. You could study Advanced Skills Baccalaureate Wales (equivalent to 1 A-Level), GCSE Maths or English, Advanced Studies, or at least one Essential Skills Qualification (ESW) course.

All students will receive tutorials and are required to complete an ESW Employability course in the Success Hub.

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements. You would be guided to the most appropriate ESOL course after completing our internally set placement test or by progressing from an ESOL Entry Level 3 course.

Assessment methods

Agored Work Related Education Assessment by student portfolio - either handwritten or produced digitally

City and Guilds Level 1 Award in ESOL Skills for Life - externally set listening and speaking exam

Continue your studies

You would have the opportunity to apply for an ESOL level 2, a vocational level 1 or level 2 college course, or future employment.
