ESOL Entry Level 2 (Evening) - Part-time Semester 1 - Pencoed

This course helps you learn the words and phrases needed to talk about time in English. You will practice how to tell the time correctly and how to describe your daily routines or special events. Learning these skills will help you make appointments, arrive on time for work, and talk to others about your schedule. It is a very practical course that will make you feel more independent in your day-to-day life.

Upon the completion of this unit, students will be awarded ESOL: Using the Language of Time Entry Level 2 from Agored Cymru

Overview and modules

In this course, you will work on the following skills:

  • Learning measures of time: You will learn how to identify and use common terms like seconds, minutes, hours, days, and weeks.
  • Telling the time: Your tutor will help you practice reading clocks and saying the time accurately in English.
  • Using time markers: You will learn words like "before," "after," "yesterday," and "tomorrow" to show when things happen.
  • Describing events: You will practice talking about things that happened in the past, things happening now, and things you plan to do in the future.
  • Sequencing information: You will learn how to put events in the right order so that your stories and explanations are easy for others to understand.
Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this course, however, students should show interest in the subject matter and a willingness to learn.

Assessment methods

Your tutor will help you throughout the course and check how you are doing. You will not have to sit any formal exams. Instead, your tutor will look at your daily work and practical tasks to make sure you understand the different ways to talk about time.

After completing this course, you may want to try other ESOL units to further improve your vocabulary and grammar. You could also apply for other short courses at the college that require good time management skills or use your new confidence to apply for a job.
