This course is for anyone looking to refine their writing skills within a specific genre, drawing on personal research to bring their ideas to life. You'll learn how to conduct in-depth personal studies and translate your findings into a polished, extended piece of writing that adheres to your chosen genre's conventions.

Upon the completion of this unit, students will be awarded Creative Writing: Extended Writing in a Chosen Genre Level 2 from Agored Cymru

Overview and modules

This course will guide you through the process of developing a significant writing project. You'll learn to:

Undertake a personal study in a chosen genre: You'll carry out focused research on an area of study that interests you, forming the foundation for your writing.
Write in a specified genre: You'll produce a detailed plan for your writing project, including a summary based on your research and an outline of your chosen genre's key features. You'll then use your research to craft an extended piece of writing (minimum 2000 words), ensuring it observes the specific language and format conventions of your chosen genre.
Evaluate your final product: You'll critically assess your completed writing, reflecting on aspects like ideas for further research and the suitability of your chosen genre for your text's purpose and audience.

Assessment methods

Assessment for this course is portfolio-based. You'll demonstrate your learning and skills through the compilation of a portfolio that includes your research, writing plan, the extended written piece, and your self-evaluation. Your portfolio will serve as comprehensive evidence that you have met all the course learning outcomes. This portfolio will allow you to showcase your journey from initial research and planning to the final creation and critical assessment of your written work.
