ESOL Level 2 - Part-time Semester 1 - Bridgend

This part-time course is perfect for anyone who wants to improve their functional communication skills in English. You will learn how to take part in conversations more confidently, whether you are talking to friends or speaking in a more formal setting like a workplace. The course focuses on helping you speak clearly and understand the main points of what others are saying, making daily life and community activities much easier to navigate.

Upon the completion of this unit, students will be awarded ESOL Skills for Life: Speaking and Listening Level 2 from City & Guilds

Overview and modules

In this course, you will develop your skills in the following areas:

  • Listening for meaning: You will practice identifying the main points and specific information in spoken passages, including noticing the emotions of the speaker.
  • Speaking with confidence: You will learn how to express your opinions clearly, ask for information, and make requests.
  • Formal and informal discussions: Your tutor will help you practice taking part in group discussions on many different topics, some familiar and some new.
  • Functional communication: You will focus on using practical language that is useful for daily life, work, and being part of your local community.
  • Group interaction: You will practice speaking and listening in groups of at least three people to build your social confidence.
Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this course, however, students should show interest in the subject matter and a willingness to learn.

Assessment methods

Your tutor will check your progress throughout the term through practical speaking and listening tasks. These will include taking part in a formal and an informal discussion. Your tutor will watch these activities and keep a record of how you are doing. These assessments are marked by the college and checked to make sure you have reached the required standard.

Continue your studies

After completing this Level 2 Award, you could move on to mainstream qualifications, further vocational training, or look for new job opportunities where good communication is important.
