Agriculture (Level 2)

Studying Agriculture at Level 2, you will benefit from work placement which is a great opportunity to experience working within an existing organisation and see what happens in an actual workplace.

This is a great qualification which could lead to a career working with large animals and machinery. You will gain practical hands-on experience, working with and learning about agricultural animals.

Prior to starting the course, you are required to purchase the following items of clothing, which will cost approximately £80:

A pair of steel toe cap wellies or safety boots
A boilersuit
A lab coat

Overview and modules

Sessions will include practicals at working farms in the local area. You will gain experience in feeding, lambing, health and welfare, and nutrition.

Modules include:

Work experience
Estate maintenance
Grassland management
Habitat management
Farm livestock
Tractor driving

You will also develop a number of skills including numeracy, literacy and digital skills throughout the course.

The awarding body for this qualification is City & Guilds.

Your programme of study

At Bridgend College, your learning programme is designed to enable you to Be All That You Can Be.

The main qualification you will study as part of this programme is the City & Guilds Level 2 Diploma in Agriculture.

You will also study additional skills qualifications as part of your programme of study. There are 3 pathways. Each pathway will be selected at enrolment and will reflect your current course application, your chosen curriculum area, as well as your previous learning in Maths and English. You could study Advanced Skills Baccalaureate Wales (equivalent to 1 A-Level), GCSE Maths or English, Advanced Studies, or at least one Essential Skills Qualification (ESW) course.

All students will receive tutorials and are required to complete an ESW Employability course in the Success Hub.

Entry requirements

3 GCSEs at grade D or above (equivalent qualifications are accepted including a Pass at Level 1).

You will be assessed in a variety of ways throughout the Diploma, which could include:

Assignments
Practical observations
Case studies
Continual class assessment

Continue your studies

If you successfully complete at a Merit or Distinction grade for this course, it will enable you to apply for the Level 3 Diploma in Agriculture.

Career progression opportunities include day-to-day operations on the farm or work in a variety of jobs in the feed, agriculture and fertiliser sectors.
