We are proud to announce that Bridgend College has once again been awarded Gold in Mind’s Workplace Wellbeing Awards. This shows we are successfully embedding mental health into our policies and practices and are demonstrating a long-term, in-depth commitment to staff mental health.
Mind’s Workplace Wellbeing Index is a benchmark of best policy and practice, celebrating the work employers are doing to promote and support positive mental health, and providing key recommendations on the specific areas where there is room to improve. By participating in the survey, we are making a commitment to supporting the mental wellbeing of our staff.
As a College, we have developed a supportive, safe environment where staff and students can openly discuss mental health and access a wide range of services at their own pace. Some of the staff initiatives we have delivered across the College include an Employee Assistance Programme, Vivup, which offers advice on a wide range of topics and a 24-hour telephone counselling service, a range of activities that encourage staff to be physically active such as the BRIT Challenge and the FE Multisport Pembrey event, free webinars on topics such as financial wellbeing and mindfulness, and the promotion of awareness days and months such as Time to Talk Day and Mental Health Awareness Week.

In addition to our calendar of planned wellbeing activities, we also provide information and support throughout the academic year. This programme is developed based on suggestions from staff, line managers and our College Wellbeing Advocates and results of staff surveys. This flexible, responsive approach helps us to provide meaningful support at the most beneficial time.
“We want our people to feel that they belong and can thrive in an environment which is supportive and enables them to be all that they can be. We care about our people, we encourage conversations around mental health and strive to take a person-centred approach in all that we do.
This excellent recognition demonstrates our commitment to our people’s wellbeing and highlights the College as a supportive employer.”
Catherine Luff, Director of People
We would like to thank everyone who helps to promote and support positive mental health in our workplace by offering their suggestions on what would be most beneficial for them. We are very proud to be making a difference.
