Katie Davies, Lecturer in Agriculture at Bridgend College, has been named Lecturer of the Year at the 2024 Professional Teaching Awards Cymru. Hosted by Tudur Owen, the event celebrated the fantastic achievements of teachers and lecturers across Wales. Katie was presented her award by Lynne Neagle MS at the ceremony in Flintshire.
Katie seamlessly combines her roles as a farmer and an educator, bridging the gap between industry and classroom learning. Her commitment to innovative teaching methods, hands-on practical application, and active involvement in the agriculture sector made her a worthy recipient of the award.
Furthermore, Katie has been announced as a Silver winner in the FE Lecturer of the Year category at the UK Pearson National Teaching Awards, which is further recognition of her incredible contribution to education.
Sarah Allen, Curriculum Manager for Land-Based studies said:
âKatie is our very own wonder woman! She is a full-time lecturer, farmer, mother to three young children, and actively involved in shaping farming policy for the future. Her students love her, she also plays netball and she is learning Welsh! We are all extremely proud of her achievements and in admiration of how she manages to do all of this to such a high standard. We are lucky to have her as part of our land based team at Bridgend College.”
Katie’s leadership extends beyond the classroom, making her a prominent figure in the agriculture industry. Her involvement in organisations such as Hybu Cig Cymru, Farmers Club of Glamorgan, Future Farmers Wales, and Young Farmers Clubs exemplifies her commitment to the development and promotion of agriculture in Wales.
In 2023, Katie’s exemplary contributions were recognised when she was awarded Woman Farmer of the Year by the Welsh branch of the National Farmers Union (NFU Cymru) and NFU Mutual at the Royal Welsh Agricultural Show. This accolade is a testament to her dedication, passion, and significant impact on the farming community.
Katie has also been invited to take on the role of County Vice Chair of the Glamorgan National Farmers Union of Wales, showcasing her leadership skills and influence in shaping the future of agriculture policy and practices in the region.
Congratulations, Katie, on these fantastic achievements!
