The Access to HE course is designed to prepare you and give you the qualifications needed to get onto your chosen University course. In order to apply for University you will need to complete a personal statement. This activity is designed to prepare you for writing your personal statement. You need to write around 500 words. If it is too short it will be returned for you to resubmit.

We are looking at your readiness to apply for university as well as your ability to write at a level 3 so ensure you proofread to avoid spelling, grammar and other errors.

Please avoid using bullet points, use paragraphs to help structure your writing.

Ideas to include:
- What course you want to do and why (ensure you have researched this using the University websites and attending open days)
- Demonstrate your knowledge of nursing/ social work/ career you are hoping to go into.
- If you have experience working in Health/ social care – write about how your work has inspired you to apply (this is essential if applying for the flexible one day a week course)
- Any other previous experience – write about it but demonstrate how its given you transferable skills that would be useful for nursing / social work/ chosen career
- Ensure you’ve looked at the NMC code/ Social Care Wales code of practice and make links to things in there eg advocacy, commitment, compassion, organisation, communication etc
- Know about the course you are applying for and explain why you will make a good student nurse/ social worker
