Bridgend College has a statutory duty under The Public Sector Equality Duty (PSED) to promote equality and reduce discrimination. The duty ensures that public sector organisations consider how their functions will affect people with different protected characteristics. Although we have a legal duty to make sure that we employ people and provide services in a safe and fair way, we endeavour to do more. We must continue to firmly establish equality as part of our everyday business and not something secondary, so that we consider it in everything we do.
We seek to develop a culture that embraces and celebrates diversity, and fosters inclusion. We will ensure that we champion and promote diversity and inclusion in everything that we do, and seek to eradicate discrimination, victimisation, bullying or harassment. Our strategic equality plan outlines our commitment to nurturing an environment where our staff and students can be their true authentic selves and feel that they belong.
As part of the PSED we are committed to publishing our annual Equality Report. Work is continuing to improve our employment information and business practices in terms of equality, diversity and inclusion. Although we have made progress over the years, we understand we still have much to do to increase the diversity of our workforce, so we can draw on different perspectives and experiences. We are committed to publishing our annual Equality Report to ensure that where gaps exist, they feature in our Strategic Equality Plan, to increase the diversity of the workforce and ensure equity across the organisation.
In the same way that we publish our Gender Pay Gap annually, we have also committed to publishing this information by all other characteristics in an overall Pay Gap Report to ensure that if any other gaps exist, they also feature in our Equality Plan.
The Equality Diversity and Inclusion Steering Committee meets regularly to discuss developments, achievements and areas for further focus or development. This group is responsible for ensuring progressions are made with implementation of the plan through procedures and practices, and use a variety of methods to evaluate progress and achievements. In this way, the purpose is to embed inclusion into every part of Bridgend College which is key to growing a truly inclusive culture where everyone feels like they belong.
