Welsh for Adults

Bridgend College, in partnership with the University of Glamorgan, provides a wide range of Welsh for Adults classes under the umbrella of the Glamorgan Welsh for Adults Centre.  The Welsh for Adults Team at Bridgend College offers courses which meet either once or twice a week in the area's main towns, Maesteg, Pencoed and Bridgend, in addition to courses in a number of villages.

Courses are held at various times of the day and at all levels within the National Framework (Entry, Foundation, Intermediate and Advanced).  This framework offers a clear progression route to take you from a complete beginner to a fluent speaker.

Entry: Courses for beginners.  Emphasis is very much on conversational Welsh - personal details and past events are among the topics covered.

Foundation: Expand on your speaking skills.  Topics such as family, work and hobbies are among the topics covered.  You should have studied about 120 hours of recent Welsh or the equivalent to join this level.

Intermediate: The emphasis is still on speaking, but a little more writing, reading and listening is introduced.  You should feel comfortable holding a conversation on everyday topics by the end of this level.  You should have studied about 240 hours of recent Welsh, or equivalent, to join this level.

Advanced: You will still concentrate on oral skills, but also be gradually introduced to Welsh radio, television and newspapers.  This course also helps you to write competently.
