Student Work Placements

Curriculum enrichment is provided through a range of work related education opportunities and work experience placements using a number of external partners. These will include visiting speakers, role play, business visits and mock interview sessions.

A significant number of students will undertake a work placement as part of the core provision of their course for at least one week during the academic year.  Others have the opportunity of a one day a week placement on a termly basis. The aim of the placements is to allow students to put into practice what they have learnt on their programme of study, and develop work place skills.

Suitable employers are selected from a 30 mile radius of the College, and have included:

  • Arriva Trains
  • ITV Wales
  • Sir Robert McAlpine
  • Vale Hotel and Spa
  • Court Coleman Manor Hotel
  • Swansea University, Faculty of Design
  • Cardiff Castle
  • British Airways Avionics
  • Welsh Blood Service
  • Bridgend County Borough Council
  • Celtic Crusaders
  • Media Wales
  • South Wales Police

Work placements have been found to be very valuable by students, and often lead to employment either on a part-time basis whilst they complete their course, or full-time on course completion. Sometimes students will be offered an apprenticeship following a successful work placement.

Site visits are carried out and risk assessments completed to ensure the placement meets the requirements of Health & Safety regulations. In addition, travel costs will be reimbursed for up to a maximum of £5.00 per day on provision of receipts.

Work placements are arranged by the College's Work Related Education Co-ordinator and Work Placement Officers, who operate from Student Services:

  • Bridgend Campus: 01656 302458 / 302591
  • Pencoed Campus: 01656 302622

We also have a successful School Link programme which will expand in the future within the 14-19 ‘Learning Pathways' agenda. Through Careers Wales some school pupils undertake work experience placements at the College.
