On Wednesday 6th May, Bridgend College will welcome up to 200 pupils from four local Primary Schools (Maes Yr Haul Primary School, Litchard Junior School, Llanilltud Fawr Primary School, Bro Ogwr Primary School) to Heronsbridge School hall, to take part in the final heat of three competitions organised by the ‘BIG' (Bridgend Innovative Group) Enterprise Team at Bridgend College.
This event has been scheduled during the Estyn Inspection currently taking place at Bridgend College (27th April - 8th May) and will showcase Bridgend College's student led enterprise initiatives and partnerships with local Primary Schools.
SMILE competition - the local primary school pupils were invited to design a logo for ‘SMILE' to be used on the Enterprise Team's marketing materials. SMILE stands for:
SMILE - Students Motivate Innovative Learning via Enterprise
S Students set their own goals and put their ideas into actions
M Motivate the community into collaborative working
I Innovative projects generating new & sustainable ideas
L Learning new skills via technology student centred and driven
E Entrepreneurial thinking to showcase student excellence
From over 200 entries, the chosen winner was Zachie Oxtoby from Maes Yr Haul Primary School. His winning logo will be featured on promotional pop up banners at the event and the school will receive a cheque for £100 provided by ‘Make your Mark', presented by Bridgend College students.
Mama Mia Technology Competition - Schools worked to create their own finger puppet Mamma Mia show and the schools have internally selected their winner to go forward to the competition final. The judging panel, next Wednesday, will select an overall winner with a prize of £100 from Bridgend College presented by David Bolton of Venture Wales.
Hovercraft Technology Competition - Each school will put forward five competitors who will go head-to-head with the other schools in a race area, from which an overall champion will be selected and a prize of £100 from Bridgend College and presented by RWE npower.
