First Class Results for Budding Filmmakers

Four students who progressed from Bridgend College to the University of Glamorgan’s Atrium in 2011 to complete the third year of their film degree have achieved first class degrees. Seven first class degrees were awarded to the class of 29 students.

Matthew Truelove, 22 from Pontypridd, Matthew Derrick, 20 from Neath, Kevin Wong, 24 from Pencoed, and Anthony Jones, 46 from Porthcawl, spent four years studying full-time at Bridgend College. They first completed the two-year BTEC National Diploma in Media Production, followed by the two-year Foundation Degree in Creative Arts (Film & Video).

Each of the four students have praised their time both at the Atrium and Bridgend College, with Matthew Truelove stating that “the combination of interesting course modules and engaging teaching allowed us to develop as filmmakers and to reach the point we’re at today.”

Clare Pompa, Course Tutor for the Foundation Degree in Creative Arts (Film & Video) says “These four students showed great promise while studying at Bridgend College, making the most of the fantastic resources and training available. The media team couldn’t be more thrilled to learn of the success they’ve achieved at the Atrium.”

In addition to their academic success, Matthew Truelove, Kevin Wong & Matthew Derrick scooped the much-coveted Glamorgan University ‘Best Short Film Award’ 2012 for their 15 minute drama ‘Henry’.

The four students had to write, produce and direct a supernatural drama featuring a gifted pathologist. The end result was highly praised at the Glamorgan Graduation Showcase which took place at Chapter Arts Centre in June, where the students received their award from Gwawr Hughes, Director of Creative Skillset Cymru.

The young filmmakers have set up their own company, Key Motion Media, and are already gaining a reputation for their technical excellence and quality. For their company showreel and to view the winning film, please visit vimeo.com/keymotionmedia or facebook.com/keymotion media.
