Bridgend College hosts two large annual events each year. Our Annual Awards in March and our Higher Education Awards Ceremony in October. These events are a celebration of our students achievements and success.
This prestigious, celebratory event is one of the highlights of the College year, with over 40 individual students recognised for their academic achievements and success. Students from each of our academic areas are awarded, with two students also receiving the honoured 'Award for Commitment to Study' or Student of the Year'.
Most recently, this red carpet event has been held in the Grand Pavilion in Porthcawl, where over 200 people (staff, students, family and friends) come together to enjoy entertainment from Perfoming Arts students and presentation of the awards to the students by guest sponsors. Our 2011 event was hosted by Sian Lloyd, BBC Wales.
The main sponsor of the evening in 2011 was RWE npower with many of the individual awards sponsored by associates and friends of the College. These included the Welsh Livery Guild, South Wales Institute of Engineers Educational Trust, TATA Steel, The Federation of Master Builders, Gilmor Hair & Beauty Supplies and local radio station Bridge FM.Higher Education Awards Ceremony
Each year over 400 students graduate from a higher education course at Bridgend College and are invited to join family, friends and staff at our Higher Education Awards Ceremony in October to celebrate graduating from their HNC, HND, Degree or professional programme.
The event is also attended by dignitaries from our three partner Universities (University of Glamorgan, University of Wales Institute, Cardiff and University of Wales, Newport) who individually congratulate and present the students with their scrolls.
Two sessions were held on 15th October 2011, with the morning session acknowledging students achieving their qualifications with the University of Glamorgan and the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff and the afternoon session for those achieving their qualifications with the University of Wales, Newport.
Each year the College awards Honorary Fellowships and it was our pleasure this year to award 2 Fellowships. The first awarded during the morning session to Roger Burnell, in recognition of his outstanding contribution to drama and theatrical arts across the County Borough of Bridgend and his support to Bridgend College, with the second awarded during the afternoon session to Dr John Graystone, in recognition of is outstanding contribution to Further Education across Wales and his support to Bridgend College.
This event is a highlight of the academic year, giving families and friends the opportunity to celebrate the successes of our graduates. Refreshements were available within the marquee on the lawns of Tregroes House, Pencoed Campus.
