January 2010 - Up & Running!

Construction AcademyStaff welcomed construction students back from their Christmas holidays to the superb, new Construction Academy at our Pencoed Campus. The facilities available to the students are second to none, with spacious work areas and high tech classrooms. Each of the trades: Plumbing, Painting & Decorating and Carpentry have purpose built work stations allowing plumbing students to work on fully fitted bathrooms and boilers; Carpenters to work on full size structures and Painters and Decorators to transform life size rooms. 

Construction studentsThe Construction Academy has also recently been selcted to host the annual Skill M&E competition, which consists of four skills competitions that search for the best of the best mechanical and electrical engineers from the building services engineering sector: SkillELECTRIC, SkillFRIDGE, SkillPLUMB and (new from 2009) SkillPIPE have been designed to promote standards and skills across the sector, developing competence into excellence.

March 2009 - Taking shape

On Friday 27th March, Carwyn Jones, AM and Janice Gregory, AM paid a site visit to Bridgend College, Pencoed Campus, to check on the progress of the new Construction Academy.

Construction AcademyThe steel frame for the Academy is now erected and the building is taking shape   with the brickwork about to begin, so it was a great opportunity for Carwyn and Janice to catch up with staff and students.

Carwyn Jones AM said; "This new centre at the Pencoed campus is really going to be a phenomenal achievement for the College. The exciting new building will house some state of the art learning environments and will stand Bridgend in good stead for turning out first class students for the Welsh workplace of the future"

Janice Gregory AM said; "I am delighted to see the tremendous progress at the Pencoed Campus. This new facility will strengthen still further the standing of Pencoed as a dynamic and lively area in which to live, work and learn. People travel from far and wide to attend the excellent College courses on offer in my constituency. I look forward to welcoming even more learners once the build is completed."

 

January 2009 - Work is underway

Construction Academy ConsultationsThe build has begun for the new Construction Academy, Pencoed Campus. The beginning of term  saw the arrival of the construction team Dawnus Construction Ltd with their first task to break up the foundations of the old cattle shed. The rubble created will be recycled and used in the new foundations for the Academy.

Two public consultation meetings have also taken place with representatives from Bridgend College and White Young Green (Engineering, Management and Planning Consultants) on Friday 16th and Friday 23rd January, 9am - 12pm, Pencoed Campus. A few members of staff took the opportunity to look over the plans and ask questions but no members of the public attended.
