COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course is designed for students to study the all round development and progress of children aged 0 - 16 years. It addresses the issues that affect children, their parents and carers and enables students, on completion, to fulfil all that is required of a qualified Nursery Nurse in all Childcare and Education settings.
12 units are studied including the following: Health; Education and Social Studies. All students will be required to undertake practical placements within a range of childcare settings. Students can be placed in a Welsh medium placement and can be assessed through the medium of Welsh. All students must undertake Essential Skills Wales qualifications.
Students achieve the qualification through a process of continuous assessment via assignments, portfolio and an external task and test. There is also continuous assessment within the childcare placement.
MODULES INCLUDE:
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: 5 GCSEs at grade C or above, to include English/Welsh first language or CACHE Level 2 Certificate at grade B or above plus GCSE English at grade C or above or NVQ Level 2 Early Years Care & Education plus GCSE English at grade C or above or BTEC First/Level 2 Diploma in Health & Social Care at Merit or Distinction plus GCSE English at grade C or above. Additionally you will be required to supply two good references. All applicants will attend an interview.
PROGRESSION TO HIGHER COURSE(S): Successful students are eligible to apply for a variety of Higher Education courses including Foundation Degrees, HNDs and BSc (Hons) courses at Bridgend College.
CAREER PROGRESSION OPPORTUNITIES: The opportunity to work as a fully qualified Early Years worker in a Nursery, Day Nursery, Hospital, Workplace Crèche, Social Services, in a private family as a Nanny or Voluntary Childcare Organisations within the Community. There are some pportunities for positions within LEA schools.
