The outstanding college committed to your success
On Thursday 12th November 2009, four bands from Bridgend College and Coleg Morgannwg battled it out to win a fantastic one day recording session in a professional music studio, sponsored by Prawn Studio, Bridgend.
On the judging panel was Polly James, presenter at Nation Radio and Andre Van Wyk, Arts Development Officer at Bridgend County Borough Council.
Each band performed a 20 minute set with the Magpies from Coleg Morgannwg triumphant. Listen out for coverage on Nation Radio, where the Magpies will be featured in a future show and playing some of their great music.
Scott Howells Music lecturer, Coleg Morgannwg said "The students really enjoyed playing in a professional environment and displayed good camaraderie with students from Bridgend College. The prize of a day's recording and national air play on nation radio will give the students good experience of being a professional recording artist. A good day out all-round!"
The event was held in Bridgend Recreation Centre as part of Colleges Week, where students from across Wales are celebrating their individual talents, successes and diversity through a range of activities.
As the Chief Executive of ColegauCymru/CollegesWales, John Graystone, explains "College students are celebrating Colleges Week by having fun! College life isn't all about hard work. We all have our talents and Colleges Week provides an opportunity for students to hone and use their talents for the benefit of others".
The event was a great success with further collaborative links planned between Bridgend College and Coleg Morgannwg, including regular jamming sessions at each College and Coleg Morgannwg taking part in the Bridgend Battle of the Bands competition in March 2010.
