AS/A2 Levels

At Bridgend College, we believe that it is important for students to have the opportunity to follow a varied curriculum and recognise that some students wish to study an AS or A2 level alongside their chosen vocational courses. Therefore from September 2013 we are hoping to introduce a range of AS/A2 levels that complement our vocational provision. For example, we hope to offer AS/A2 Level Biology to students studying the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Animal Care or AS/A2 Level Chemistry to students studying the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Forensic Science.

These AS/A2 level courses are separate to the subjects offered under the 14-19 Learning Pathways partnership provision, where Bridgend College delivers a range of AS/A2 levels not available in local comprehensive schools and which provides additional opportunities for College students.

GCSEs

Any student who has not already achieved a Grade C minimum in GCSE Mathematics or GCSE English is encouraged to join a class to achieve this qualification. Opportunities exist for students to join these courses either one evening, a Wednesday afternoon or a Friday morning.

Students will be required to attend one three hour session per week for 30 weeks.

  • Evening classes run from 6- 9pm, day to be confirmed;
  • Wednesday 1-4 pm;
  • Friday 9am-12 noon or 10am-1pm

For the November re-sit examinations, the College has the following policies:

MATHEMATICS: Students will not be entered for the re-sit examination in November unless they have achieved a D grade in the previous June examination. They must also join an 8 week re-sit course on a Wednesday afternoon or Thursday evening.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE: Students will not re-sit English in November. There is not enough time for students to re-write coursework and for staff to mark it and to prepare them for the exam. Therefore, all students are required to follow a one year course and sit the exams in the summer.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL GCSE COURSES: Students must have completed Secondary Education. The GCSE courses at Bridgend College are intensive, one year programmes and are intended for school leavers who wish to re-sit their GCSE’s. Mature candidates and students with special circumstances will be considered on their experience and ability to study at GCSE level, and may be accepted at the discretion of the Course Tutor.
